Apple Crumble Recipe - Gluten Free
May 1, 2008
I tried this apple crumble recipe the other night and it was the best I’ve ever tasted - maybe it was just because I could pick the apples straight from my tree, what a pleasure. There are three mature apple trees in the garden but only one is producing loads of lovely fruit. I think it’s a granny smith but I’m not sure how old it is. It’s also the only fruit tree that’s been pruned nicely… that’s until this winter when I make a clumsy attempt at it.
If you’re not gluten intolerant just use normal plain flour instead of the gluten free flour.
Base
6 large Granny Smith apples, peeled & cored
20g butter
1/2 tsp ground cinnamon
1/2 cup caster sugar
Top
1/2 cup caster sugar
1/3 cup Gluten Free plain flour
2/3 cup flaked coconut
1/2 cup flaked almonds
50g melted butter, extra
Method
1. Preheat oven to 200°C.
2. Base -Slice apples. Melt butter in non-stick pan and cook apples, cinnamon and sugar until apples are soft. Pour into an ovenproof dish.
3. Crumble – Mix together with a wooden spoon sugar, plain flour, coconut, almonds & butter. Cover fruit with crumble topping to form an even top layer.
4. Bake for 40 minutes or until crumble is golden brown
